I’d say it’s a beautiful potpourri of old-fashioned musical with new delights. It is a spectacle. It’s colourful, it is emotional beautiful sad and tips into reality as well. The true story of PT Barnum. 

Nathan’s rich detail of authenticity and colours and the original prints and it’s just…you’re in it. I’m in the world. I’m sitting in the train cart. I’m drinking from the specific glasses. I’m reading the magazines. It’s incredible.

I was so nervous for my first performance at BAM, and also they start off by saying ‘ by the way the greatest actors have been here, Ingrid Bergman, Greta Garbo, and now you’ and I was thinking why I’m going now. I’d been practicing and rehearsing the song but nothing…I mean I’ve never done a musical I can’t explain it.

The feeling of standing on a stage and I’ve never done theatre in front of 400 extras and I’m shaking in muscles I didn’t actually know I had. And I look over to Hugh and he’s just a big smile and I can see the calmness of Michael and I think you bet on me I’m just gonna have to do this now. And after I take 3 or something I was thinking ‘Quite comfortable here’. I kind of like this stage work and the audience were lovely. He’s a thespian and when he puts that jacket on and he puts his smile on, it’s just… I understand that people wanted to be a part of PT Barnum’s world. I want to be a part of Hugh Jackman’s world. It’s intoxicating.

It’s addictive. It’s such good music. And everything they seem to touch it turns into gold. Then yes the Oscar Nominated which was phenomenal, which is wonderful, but they are on set every day.They are there. They’re prepping, they’re helping, they’re training. They’re a part of the team. I don’t feel like there are different stations in this film where you have the art department and the director and the actors and the music. Everyone is involved and I think that creates also the magic on set.I’ve been a part of the magic on set and that is completely different to any set I’ve ever been on.

I want the audience to come out and to think that they had expected to see a musical with whatever expectance that is and come out completely covered in goose-pumps not really knowing what they have seen. The song verifies a musical but the emotions might verify something else.
